Siqueiros knew from a very young age the destruction that war brought. As a teenager he joined the Constitutionalist Army in Veracruz during the Mexican Revolution and in 1937 he traveled to Spain to enlist in the militia of the Republican Army, where he reached the rank of Colonel.
The Vietnam War, between 1960 and 1975, would be another reason for Siqueiros to protest. The United States, with the support of other nations, wanted to prevent the unification of Vietnam under a communist government. The Mexican Communist Party and the Popular Socialist Party of Mexico organized large demonstrations demanding the creation of a solidarity committee to promote and coordinate actions to support Vietnam at a national level. Siqueiros was the founder of this committee.
It is not surprising that in 1967, at the Embassy of the Soviet Union in Mexico, he was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize. This recognition was given annually by the Soviet Union to individuals who had contributed to generating harmony between peoples. The prize consisted of a medal, a diploma and a thousand items, which he decided to give to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
These experiences that he chose voluntarily brought him closer to human pain in its maximum expression, and at the same time helped him develop a great artistic sensitivity.
In this context, the piece “Final Judgment” was created, a work in which Siqueiros reflects the end of time; where the final destiny that each individual built for himself will finally be decided.
